Durvasa’s Shri Shakti Mahimna Stotram

v 01 10-v 11 20-v 21 30-v 31 40-v 41 50-v 51 61
Introduction:
The Sakti Mahimna-stotram contains 61-verses, describing the glory Of Devi.
The first part deals with Kundalini, meditation techniques, meaning and symbolism
of several aspects of Shakthi worship and the second part is a very poetic description
Of Goddess Shakthi. The verses give details Of Väkbijam, Kämabijam and Sakti-bijam
and Devi is meditated in the form of these bijams. Further grividyä mantra is
indicated; Durväsa beautifully describes the beauty of Devi from head to feet;
Sage Durvasa was the son Of Sage Athri and his wife Anasooya. His brothers
are sage Dathathreya and Soma. It seems once Lord Shiva was so angry that no body
dared to approach him. At that time Goddess Parvathi told him
meaning, "l am not able to live happily with you.". Lord Shiva realized his mistake
and took out all the anger from himself and placed it in the womb of Anasuya. The
child born later to her, was the very short tempered saint "Durvasa- He is
also called "Krodha Bhattagara". (The personification Of anger). People believe that
I — Sri Krishna Sara S
Sage Durvasa consecrated the Kamakshi at Kanchipuram. He is the author of two
great books viz Arya dwisathi and Shakthi Mahimna stotra. The later is similar to
Adhi Shankara's Soundarya Lahari in the sense that both deal with the power of
Goddess Parvathi and both have two parts, the first part being philosophy of Shakthi
and the second. the poetic description of Goddess Parvathi.

aksaramäla, there are 50 beads and one hanging bead in the centre will be there; the
hanging bead is not meant for counting. The normal method is to count from I to 50
I O— Sri Krishna Saras
and reverse 50 to 1. Still better method is the syllable from counter from
susmna nerve starting from mülädhära and ending in äjfia caka (forming like a
garland in the mind ) and reversing from ajfia to mülädhära.

Il— Sri Krishna Saras
O Mother ! One who understands the significance of Thy name 'Tripura' is a
fortunate intellect; Thy Gem-seat consists of syllables beginning with

in the 5-koéas, as a brilliant inferno Of lightning, he Only has the knowledge of
Brahman;-24.
Oh mother he is the knower Of Brhamam, who understands you as, The light
